The AI Lab is working with Faktisk.no

Gustavo Mello, leader of the AI Lab, was recently interviewed by kode24 on the new collaborative project: Faktisk Innsikt.

Faktisk Innsikt is a new department in Faktisk.no where the AI Lab will contribute with analytical tools to support fact-checking and other investigative methods in journalism. The new department is led by Morten Langfeldt Dahlbeck from Faktisk.no.

– This project is not about replacing the journalist, but creating analytical tools to support fact-checking and other investigative methods, Mello said to Kode24.

The department was launched in January and will focus on innovation and development of technology. They are now working with the use of methods from data science and language technology to develop solutions that can support fact-checkers in understanding how misinformation is spread in Norway.

Associate Professor Marina Fridman from the AI Lab will be exploring the dataset and use Natural Language Processing and Norwegian language models to help Faktisk.no decide what critical questions they both can and want to answer. Marina is a data scientist with a background in neuroscience. The AI Lab has also engaged students in Data Science to work on this project, in addition to Gustavo.
