M.A. (1977) & PhD (1992), both in Sociology, from the University of Oslo. Have been switching between applied social research (from 2006 at NOVA) & teaching & research at universities (Univ. of Oslo 1991-92 and NTNU, Trondheim 1995-2007). Professor of Sociology since 1995, Adjunct Professor at the UiT Artic University of Norway, Tromsø, 2012-15. Have been visiting scholar / professor at the universities of Edinburgh, Umeå, Helsinki, Bremen, Copenhagen & Lund. Directed a Nordic project on Active Citizenship (2002-05), a virtual Nordic Centre of Excellence on the Nordic Welfare Model (2007-13), 2013-16 an EU FP7 project on the conditions for Active Citizenship by persons with disabilities (DISCIT), 2015-18 an EU H2020 project young people's agency related to job insecurity in nine European countries (NEGOTIATE) & a project on Sustainable European Welfare Societies (2014-18), funded by Research Council of Norway. Partner in EU project on new solidarities (SOLIDUS, 2015-18).
