The European Social Survey (ESS) is among the largest European interview surveys and has been conducted biennially in a total of 40 countries since 2001.
The survey is freely available and provides comparable research data on Europeans' living conditions, attitudes, identity, and political interest.
It is an important source of research on differences and similarities between countries in Europe and is used nationally in teaching, by the media, and public authorities.
Professor Ann-Helén Bay at OsloMet was appointed as the leader of the ESS general assembly in 2023, which is the highest governing body in the consortium that operates the research infrastructure. She has previously been a member of the ESS's Scientific Advisory Board for many years.
In conjunction with the general assembly holding its autumn meeting in Oslo, an open seminar is being arranged at OsloMet with the long-standing director of the ESS, Rory Fitzgerald.
The seminar will be conducted in English and will be led by Ann-Helén Bay.
