Dr. Akif Q. Khan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet). He brings over 12 years of experience in computer science and engineering, with expertise spanning big data, cloud computing, machine learning, and software development. He specializes in designing robust, scalable, and efficient solutions for processing and analyzing large-scale datasets, with a particular focus on performance and cost optimization in cloud environments.

Education & Research

Dr. Khan earned his PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway. His research centers on big data deployment across the computing continuum and cost optimization models for cloud services. He has developed novel frameworks for optimizing storage, network, and compute resources in cloud environments. Notable contributions include graph-based approaches to cloud cost modelling and optimisation, storage tier optimization through object classification, and smart data placement strategies using storage-as-a-service models for big data pipelines. His work also explores the impact of artificial intelligence in education, including research on the academic impact of ChatGPT, drawing insights from researchers, students, and educators. 

Teaching

Dr. Khan teaches courses in web programming at Oslo Metropolitan University, including DATA1200 – Inclusive Web Design and DATA1700 – Web Programming. His teaching reflects a commitment to equipping students with both technical proficiency and an awareness of accessibility and inclusive design principles.
