Public defence: Magdalena Elnes

Magdalena Elnes will defend her thesis for the PhD programme in Educational Sciences for Teacher Education.

Title of the trial lecture: “Discuss theoretical perspectives on the role of early environmental factors in the development of academic skills".

The title of the thesis is "The Role of Early Childhood Environment in Later Reading and Arithmetic Skills: A Longitudinal Study on Gender Differences".

The main supervisor is Professor Ove Edvard Hatlevik, Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education, OsloMet. The co-supervisor is Professor Elin Reikerås, University of Stavanger.

Summary

The projects serves a part of the longitudinal research project, GoBaN (OsloMet), encompassing approximately 1100 children across three data collection time points (at ages 3, 5, and 11). 

The primary objective is to investigate short-term and long-term impact of environmental factors, including kindergarten quality and home learning environment, on verbal and non-verbal cognitive skills among boys and girls, and to assess whether these effects vary significantly between the genders.
