The sub-strategy for Education is based on, and partly complements, OsloMet’s University Strategy, and should therefore be viewed in connection with the educational objectives already described there.
Key topics in the University Strategy include interprofessional collaboration, professionally relevant expertise within the field of sustainable development, an inclusive and diverse study environment, and internationalisation.
Knowledge development takes place through international interaction, and international experiences give students important insight into future professional practice.
Managers and academic communities must implement measures that ensure that the educational programmes they are responsible for meet the main objectives of the strategy.
The measures must be adapted to the distinctive characteristics of the educational programmes, the needs of the students and the expertise of the academic staff.
Teaching that motivates learning
The educational programmes at OsloMet shall motivate students. Educators shall provide varied teaching that helps students with different backgrounds succeed.
Education and learning happen through collaboration. To further develop the educational programmes, students and staff must share experiences, expertise and resources with each other, and within and across the various programmes.
OsloMet shall
- provide staff with incentives to develop as educators and place clear emphasis on teaching skills during recruitment and promotion processes.
- base the development of teaching methods and the content of the subjects we teach on research-based knowledge.
- offer varied learning activities that students actively engage in and that inspire students to achieve their goals.
- include the students as our most important partners in the further development of the educational programmes.
- educate students who are able to develop their own skills.
- encourage independent reflection, critical thinking, and professional judgement in learning activities and practical studies.
Engaged students in an active study environment
Our students shall have the opportunity to experience a study period characterised by community, engagement, hard work, and mastery.
Collaboration with students and their organisations will play a crucial role in achieving this.
OsloMet shall
- ensure a vibrant student life through a focus on campus-based bachelor's and master's programmes.
- improve conditions for student organisations, student democracy, and student-initiated activities.
- ensure that students feel connected to their own programme of study and academic environment by facilitating an inclusive start to their studies and through the design and layout of the campus.
Strong links between education and working life
Students who are educated at OsloMet will enter a working life that is constantly changing.
This means that our educational programmes must be closely linked to working life, meet society’s competency requirements and contribute to research that is relevant to the professions.
Our aim is for supervised professional training to contribute to the creation of new knowledge, and for new knowledge to influence the field of practice.
OsloMet shall
- create meaningful connections between education, research and supervised professional training, in collaboration with working life.
- continue to prioritise education to professions as the core of our activities.
- develop partnerships that contribute to the mutual quality development of the educational programmes and field of practice.
- develop continuing education programmes in collaboration with working life, which contribute to lifelong learning for the professions we educate for.
