Inclusion of more children and young people

Exclusion among children and young people is a major societal challenge. If we are to succeed with inclusion, a concerted effort across the board is needed. This is the starting point for this thematic research initiative from OsloMet.

Exclusion affects many individuals and it has major effects on the societal level. A concerted effort is needed with participation across disciplines, professions and sectors to include more children and young people.

This is the starting point for the Government's establishment of a social mission with the aim of including more children and young people in education, working life and society. Our research initiative at OsloMet follows this mission.

The initiative will generate the knowledge needed to include more children and young people.

At OsloMet, we have several key research areas that contribute, including research on education, working life, leisure, health and social services, local communities, upbringing, diversity, exclusion and marginalisation.

The thematic focus on exclusion among children and young people affects many of OsloMet's academic communities, and it will build on work done in OsloMet's Children and Young People's Initiative (2023-2025).

The initiative is one of four thematic research initiatives at OsloMet in the period 2026-2029.

  • Research initiatives

OsloMet's four thematic research initiatives aim to promote and strengthen the university's research and knowledge development in key areas. The initiatives will last for five years, from 2026 to 2030.
