About the position
Can you contribute to teach our students service design and systemic thinking? We are looking for an established design professional with expertise and passion for teaching, research, and innovation in service design to join the Department of Product Design at OsloMet. We are seeking an active, collaborative, and creative colleague to strengthen service design in our design education and research activities.
The Department of Product Design invites applications for a permanent full-time position as Assistant Professor in Service and Systemic Design. The position primarily involves course responsibility, teaching and supervision at the Master's level, but will also include supervision and teaching assignments related to the Bachelor's programme. We are looking for someone who is an experienced practicing service and system designer with industry and/or teaching experience. There is a strong focus on research and development at the faculty. The department has three research groups with significant activity in the areas of design/aesthetics/materiality, systemic design, and design for health. It is expected that the person hired will participate in commissioned work and development projects at the department.
Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be to
- Teaching and supervision in design, preferably in Service and systemic Design at all levels
- Planning, implementation and development of courses
- Perform academic administrative tasks
- Participate in, collaborate on, and conduct academic development work, research projects, and assignments within various initiatives
- Facilitate good dialogue internally, with the design industry, and with other external partners
- Follow up students in practical training
- Actively contribute to the development of the department and OsloMet as an institution
Qualification requirements
- Master’s Degree or equivalent education within the field of design
- Experience and knowledge with relevant methodology for service and/or systemic design
- Experience with teaching and supervision
- Experience with visual communication and relevant software

- Written and oral proficiency in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish (minimum level B2), and English (Language requirements for employees at OsloMet)
Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.
General criteria for appointment to teaching and research positions are set out in the Regulations relating to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges.
It will be an advantage if you have
- Experience in initiating or participating in research projects and/or leadership/participation in projects within Service and Systemic Design
- Relevant work experience from the design industry
- Experience with sustainability as an integrated part of the design process
- Pedagogical skills and teaching abilities and an interest to further develop these
- Flexibility and ability to adapt teaching to OsloMet's and the department's needs – including interdisciplinary collaboration

- Good collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and adapt to a dynamic work environment

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and OsloMets pay policy for Assistant Professor in code 1009, corresponding to 604 900-759 100 NOK per year. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK).
