Concert: A Nordic-Palestinian collaboration

Oud, double bass, percussion, clarinet and a book launch! Join us for a concert that highlights the power of art and literature.

"Skyggens sang" (The Shadow's song) is a Nordic-Palestinian collaboration that has resulted in a picture book that will be published in October. The book is richly illustrated and completely wordless, which also functions as an open score for a musical work. The author, Anne Sofie Allermann, and Bilal Irshed with his quartet (bilalirshed.com) are coming to OsloMet to give a concert with musical interpretations from the picture book. How can one find inspiration and support in art and music?

Anne Sofie Allermann is a Danish children's book author living in Fredriksberg, Denmark. "Skyggens sang" was created in collaboration with her, the Danish-Palestinian composer and musician Bilal Irhed and the Palestinian illustrator Baraa Alawoor.

The music we will hear captures the essence and beauty of the East, while adding a modern twist by combining the sound with Afro-Cuban percussion and the contrabass from the Scandinavian jazz tradition. The quartet consists of Bilal Irshed on oud, Rasmus Møldrup on double bass, Ayi Solomon on percussion and Tine Vitkov on clarinet.

Behind the initiative for "Skyggens sang" is the newly started association Grobro, that works to create artistic and literary bridges between the Nordic countries and countries in the Middle East. The concert is organized by the Cultural Committee at OsloMet (ansatt.oslomet.no).

Free and open to everyone! Feel free to bring your lunch. It will be possible to buy coffee, tea and cakes in the Festsalen.
