About Exhibition Arena OsloMet

All educational programmes and activities at OsloMet contribute to shaping both the cultural identity of the university and of the city of Oslo. In the Exhibition Arena project, we work with the dissemination, communication, and promotion of OsloMet’s academic activities at Campus Pilestredet and Campus Kjeller, including exhibitions, performances, book launches, and research dissemination projects.

The Exhibition Arena OsloMet project was initiated by The Department of Art, Design and Drama, and received strategy funding distributed over the course of three years. This means that it is a portfolio-driven project. The aim of the project is to include and represent all academic environments at the university.

As part of the project, exhibition arenas and spaces were created throughout our campuses in order to facilitate internal showcasing of the activities created at the university. One of the aims behind this is to increase visibility and create opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The development of the concept is being carried out in dialogue with several academic environments at OsloMet.

During the autumn of 2023, the project implemented various activities, including exhibitions at Pilestredet 52 and Pilestredet 46, book launches and performances. We plan to continue the work during the period of 2024-2026, after a planning phase that is carried out in collaboration with academic environments and contributors interested in participating in the strategy project.

Help with booking exhibition areas

OsloMet Exhibition Arena is only responsible for some areas on campus, while other areas must be booked through the scheduling system or the KK-senteret. Here you can find an overview of how booking works for the different venues:

Student Hall (P52)

For exam exhibitions and larger installations. First, check in the TP system whether “Studenthallen–utstilling” is available at your desired time. Note that the exhibition area has its own name (Studenthallen–utstilling), and this applies to the area from the entrance to the student hall from the main entrance to the beam. If the student hall’s exhibition section is available, you can send a request in TP to book the student hall’s exhibition section.

Pilestredet 46 (P46), the foyer

Secure, lockable display cases, e.g., for historical material. These must be booked by contacting OsloMet Exhibition Arena. Send us an email if you have an idea for an exhibition that could fit these areas. Note! The area is not suitable for pop-up exhibitions; exhibitions in this area must be at least three weeks long.

After you have been allocated exhibition space by us in P46, you must order the lifting of the display domes through BiE. They cannot be lifted by others. The timing must also be coordinated with us.

How does changing exhibitions at P46 foaje work?

Order assistance from BiE to lift the display domes on the cases at least one week in advance. BiE is usually available early in the day. Also coordinate the time with us, so that we can assist when the exhibition is changed. In addition, the previous exhibition will be notified of the changeover time.

The suction cups can be collected from us, or we bring them when we meet for the changeover and installation of the exhibition.

When the display domes are lifted, you only have a short time to place the works inside. This means the exhibition must be fully planned so the works can be placed in the cases quickly. The BiE staff either wait in the room (if you are placing only a few objects and the procedure can be completed quickly), or you agree on when they should return to put the glass back on. Tip: Carry out a trial installation locally and bring a photo of it. This makes curating the exhibition easier, more efficient, and less stressful.

Be present at the end of the exhibition to collect your works. Unfortunately, we are not able to store works that are not collected. Collection should be arranged at least one week in advance.

Help with booking exhibition objects

We are currently developing a labeling and loan system for our exhibition objects. A complete overview will be made available in due course. In the meantime, you are very welcome to contact us to describe your needs. We can then provide an overview of which exhibition furniture is available. We offer, among other things, more robust exhibition walls and lighter, mobile exhibition walls, pedestals, tables—with and without pleksiglass domes—and other exhibition equipment. See the more detailed description of booking the mobile lightweight walls below.

Process for ordering the mobile lightweight walls:

  • Confirm room booking in TP
  • Contact the Exhibition Arena to check availability.
  • Send a BiE request to Operations for transport, or book an electric van to move them yourself.

If you order moving the walls via BiE, remember to state both the pickup time and the return transport time in the order:

BiE ordering (bie.tjenester.oslomet.no)

The walls are currently located in storage D123 in P52, stored disassembled.

An electric van can be booked through the usual Outlook meeting and room booking.

Assemble and return the walls as agreed. Note: without damage, holes, and with all parts.

During exam periods, capacity may be limited.
