Sexual health is part of overall health. This survey examines sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) amongst a representative sample of the Norwegian population.
Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are recognised as a key component of public health work internationally, and the national strategy for sexual health from 2025 highlights sexual health as a resource for health and wellbeing.
Norway currently lacks a broad, national and representative survey of SRHR among the adult population.
Existing studies cover limited topics or specific groups. This project is a Norwegian adaptation of the Swedish population survey ‘Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in Sweden’, conducted in 2017 and 2024, and will establish a national knowledge base.
The main objective is to map SRHR among the adult population in Norway by examining
- sexual well-being, sexual practices and relationships across different age groups
- the use of contraception and protection against sexually transmitted infections
- experiences relating to reproductive health
- experiences of sexual harassment, violence or coercion
- how SRHR varies across socio-demographic groups.
Study benefits are increased knowledge for use in research, education, health services and public health work.
Data collection is carried out using a structured digital questionnaire, which is completed anonymously. 20,000 people aged 18–84 are invited to take part. The survey will be conducted in November 2026.
