Somatocognitive therapy in treatment of provoked localized vulvodynia (ProLove)

This PhD project is conducting a randomized clinical trial comparing somatocognitive physiotherapy with standard treatment for provoked localized vulvodynia.

Provoked localized vulvodynia (PVD) affects 8–12 percent of women of reproductive age and is characterized by pain during intercourse or pressure on the vaginal opening. The condition impacts quality of life, mental health, and relationships.

Physiotherapy is a recommended conservative treatment. This study compares somatocognitive physiotherapy (SCT) with standard treatment in 86 women aged 18–35, randomly assigned to two groups (1:1 ratio).

We examine effects on pain, sexual function, and psychosocial factors. Additionally, we assess the content validity of the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) for PVD, propose an adapted version, and develop a new tool to better capture the complexity of sexual health in PVD.
