This program provides you with practical skills and theoretical insight into digital investigative journalism. You will learn how to collect, analyze, and visualize data – and use AI to strengthen investigative reporting in a global context.

Admission requirements

To apply for this programme you must meet the Higher education entrance qualification (samordnaopptak.no)

Norwegian language proficiency is not required.

Target group

The program is aimed at journalists but is also open to others with knowledge of and interest in journalism and/or computer science.

Course description

Upon completing this program, you will have a solid understanding of how digital methods and artificial intelligence can strengthen investigative journalism.

You will gain insight into both traditional and modern techniques for investigative reporting and learn how to use digital tools to collect, analyze, and visualize data.

The course equips you to develop and carry out your own projects using AI-supported methods, while also enabling you to assess ethical and legal issues related to data collection and international collaboration. 

The goal is for you to combine technological understanding with journalistic integrity to produce thorough and socially relevant journalism.

Teaching methods

The program is organized around two five-hour sessions at OsloMet. These sessions are workshop-based, where students receive support from experienced journalists and AI experts to work on course assignments and develop the skills and knowledge needed to conduct investigative journalism across borders.

The course is particularly well suited for journalists and others who have their own project ideas and preferably their own data, or know how to find and collect data. During the course, you will receive step-by-step guidance.
