Python programming can be a tool for uncovering stories hidden in data. This course is aimed at journalists who want to learn how Python can be used to analyze and conduct research in larger datasets.
Admission requirements
To apply for this continuing education you must have Higher Education Entrance Qualification to Norwegian Universities (samordnaopptak.no).
Norwegian language proficiency is not required.

Admission opens 1 April. Qualified applicants will be admitted continuously until the course is full.

The continuing education is aimed at journalists but is also open to other interested parties.
Course content
In this continuing education you will dive into Python programming and data science, acquiring skills that will enhance your ability to analyze data.
You will receive a comprehensive introduction to data science and big data, with a special focus on how these tools can be used in investigative journalism.
The course emphasizes the development of fundamental programming techniques, analytical thinking, understanding of code, and problem-solving skills. You will learn to use state-of-the-art techniques in data analysis, enabling you to interact independently with data and extract insights from it.
Through practical exercises and guidance, you will develop understanding and skills that can be directly applied to your journalistic practice.

How the course is taught
The course is organized around two five-hour sessions at OsloMet and four digital sessions.
The sessions will have a practical approach to learning, where you work in groups under supervision on a project relevant to journalism. Attendance at the sessions is therefore necessary for the completion of the program.
The exam is a project carried out in groups of two to three students.
The continuing education program is worth 15 credits. This corresponds to a 50 percent workload compared to full-time studies.
