Associate professor of strategy

Oslo Metropolitan University is Norway's third largest university with 23,000 students and over 2,600 employees. We have campuses in central Oslo and at Romerike. OsloMet educates students and conducts research that contributes to the sustainability of the Norwegian welfare state and the metropolitan region.

Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business. The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

Oslo Business School at Oslo Metropolitan University has approximately 2,000 students and 80 employees, and offers studies at the bachelor, master, and PhD levels. The Business School is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, which has a faculty-wide PhD program.

Oslo Business School, Section for Strategy, Innovation and Marketing, has a permanent full-time position available as Associate Professor in Strategy. The section currently has 10 permanent staff and 2 PhD candidates. The section is responsible for the business school’s teaching in strategy, innovation, marketing, and communication.

The candidate we are seeking will contribute to research and education in strategy. This includes topics such as strategic management, knowledge strategy, strategic capabilities, strategy change, innovation, sustainability, and digitalization, as well as strategy in specific contexts. Applicants from related fields such as organization and management, innovation/entrepreneurship, and marketing are welcome to apply if a significant part of their academic profile concerns strategy. The person appointed must be able to teach at both bachelor and master level, as well as in continuing education and research education at the Business School.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants will be ranked based on high-quality research and development work relevant to the position. Scientific publications within strategy in recognized channels from the past five years will be particularly emphasized, along with ongoing research activity that shows potential for future publications. Teaching experience and strong communication and collaboration skills will also be emphasized. Teaching at the school is primarily in Norwegian, and good oral and written proficiency in a Scandinavian language is a clear advantage. Some teaching is in English, and the person appointed is expected to be able to teach in English.

Applicants in the last six months of their doctoral work may apply. Employment requires that the dissertation is approved and defended. The application must include confirmation from the supervisor or head of department.

Applicants must document relevant teaching competence in accordance with OsloMet’s guidelines for the assessment of educational competence. OsloMet conducts evaluation of pedagogical qualifications during the interview process. Applicants who cannot document basic university pedagogy competence must acquire this within two years of employment. OsloMet offers a course in university pedagogy that meets this requirement.

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, shall be offered Norwegian courses, and must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

We offer

The daily workplace will be at the school’s premises at OsloMet.

The position is remunerated in accordance with the Norwegian state’s main collective agreements and OsloMet’s salary policy for Associate Professors in code 1011, i.e., NOK 620 300 –745 000 per year. From the salary, 2% is deducted for contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). For particularly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered. Start date by agreement.
