About
I am an Associate Professor in Music and Creative Methods/Activity Subjects at the Department of Social Work at OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University. I was educated at the Department of Musicology at the University of Oslo, with an academic focus on music pedagogy, the understanding of music cultures, and music therapy. My master’s thesis was a qualitative, music-centered study using musical theory and practice in collaboration with people living with HIV/AIDS.
I hold postgraduate training in the receptive music therapy method Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) and have practiced as a GIM therapist since 2006. Since 2024, I am also an Accredited Trainer in The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (BMGIM).
My academic interests center on the significance of music and other creative methods in human encounters, and on how various activities can function as the common third in relational settings within the field of child welfare practice. I am responsible for teaching practical skills training focused on working with one’s own attitudes and self-reflection through the use of creative methods and activities/activity subjects, as well as project work in preventive and health-promoting practice. In addition, I am engaged in professional development work, particularly related to teaching designs and practice-based experiences developed in collaboration with the field of practice.
I am also a singer and performer, and have developed several musical narratives for both adults and children. These are also professional development projects that form the basis for my own arts-based research, using an a/r/tographic approach in which I, as researcher, integrate the roles of artist (Artist), researcher (Researcher), and educator/therapist (Teacher/Therapist).
In 2018, I received the Work Environment Award from OsloMet central administration, in recognition of my work with cultural outreach at OsloMet.
In 2011, I received an honorary award from the Norwegian National Association for Lesbian and Gay Liberation (now FRI – the Association for Gender and Sexual Diversity) for my engagement in HIV-related issues in general, and in particular for my work with the Garden Concert at Aksept – a centre for all those affected by HIV, Church City Mission.
