Tanja Schroot’s academic interests lie in intra-European mobility, migration, education, and professional integration, with a particular focus on women from Central and Eastern Europe working in healthcare.
On 1 August 2025, she began her MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship at OsloMet.
“We are very pleased to welcome Tanja to NOVA,” says Director Guro Ødegård. “Her Marie Sklodowska-Curie project brings new and important perspectives on migration, gender and lifelong learning, and we look forward to following her research.”
Training and integration
Schroot’s project Strategies for Competence Integration and Lifelong Learning in European Destinations (SCILLED) looks at training opportunities and lifelong learning practices for qualified female migrant workers in healthcare institutions across Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
“For decades, European policies have promoted lifelong learning, but we still know too little about how efficient they are in practice for foreign-born adults in professional contexts,” Schroot explains.
“Through SCILLED, I want to better understand how healthcare institutions can recognise skills and create training that supports both gender equality and integration.”
The project combines surveys of healthcare institutions with in-depth interviews with migrant women. Results will be shared through academic publications, conference presentations, and a co-created podcast series where participants themselves take part as speakers.
Will stay two years in Oslo
Schroot values both the professional and personal dimensions of her fellowship at NOVA.
“The MSCA grant gives me the chance to build new competencies and networks,” she says. “At the same time, I am grateful that my family can experience the many facets of mobility here in Oslo.”
Tanja Schroot holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Turin, Italy, where she remains an affiliate researcher. She is also Contract Professor for Sociology of Education and Integration at the University of Aosta, Italy.
