Dementia Villages – providing better and safer person-centred care to people with dementia

The project explores how the physical environment of Dementia Villages influences healthcare personnel’s daily work, job satisfaction, and the quality of person-centred dementia care.

This project investigates how the physical indoor and outdoor environments of Dementia Villages influence healthcare personnel’s daily work experiences, job satisfaction, and perceptions of care quality.

Dementia Villages represent an innovative care model based on small-scale, homelike units designed to promote safety, autonomy, and person-centred care.

Through focus group interviews with healthcare personnel working in Dementia Villages in Oslo Municipality, the study will explore how architectural design, spatial layout, sensory qualities, and access to outdoor areas affect caregiving practices, ethical considerations, and the work environment.

The findings will contribute to further developing Dementia Villages and strengthening the quality of future dementia care.
