Stepping stones for successful evaluation of mobile app efficacy for risk reduction of type 2 diabetes

In this PhD project, we developed and assessed the feasibility of an evidece-based app named Plunde (People Living Under Change), designed to promote and monitor lifestyle change in individuals with prediabetes.

Prediabetes, the stage before diabetes type 2 fully develops, represents a critical phase and a window of opportunity where lifestyle change can prevent the progression of the disease.

The first study compiled results from qualitative studies on what can hinder or promote lifestyle changes (a qualitative meta-synthesis). The analysis of these studies gave us important insights into how different social and individual factors can influence lifestyle changes.

The results from the first study and experience from previous research conducted by our research group formed the basis for the development of a prototype of Plunde in collaboration with a technology research company (SimulaMet).
