Knowledge Integration in Teacher Education through Technology Enhanced Simulation (KITES)

A collaborative, design-based research project that allow students to practice complex challenges in a safe digital environment. The project is owned by Østfold University College.

KITES is a collaborative, design-based research project led by Østfold University College in partnership with OsloMet, Aalborg University, Østfold Municipality, and the Union of Education Norway.

The goal is to develop and explore technology-rich, scenario-based simulations that help student teachers integrate theoretical and practical knowledge as a basis for making and justifying professional decisions.

We use VR, 360-degree video, and AI chatbots to create authentic situations that allow students to practice complex challenges in a safe digital environment—situations that might otherwise be too resource-demanding or ethically challenging in ordinary practice settings.

The scenarios are developed in collaboration with teachers, student teachers, and teacher educators. The project will produce openly available prototypes for use in other teacher education programmes and in mentoring of newly qualified teachers.
