PhD project examining the potential role of aesthetic learning processes in science education within the framework of education for sustainable development.
The aim of the PhD project is to investigate how a sample of teacher-to-be reflect on the use of aesthetic learning processes in science education, as well as to examine pupils’ conversations related to this teaching.
Study context: the pre-service teachers develop a teaching lesson that includes aesthetic learning processes in education for sustainable development, and implement it twice during consecutive practicum periods.
Method
The overall design of the project will be inspired by the principles of Design-Based Research (DBR), described by Anderson and Shattuck (2012). Qualitative data will be collected through anonymous individual qualitative questionnaires, semi-structured group interviews, participatory and non-participatory open observation focusing on both the pre-service teachers and the pupils (Johannessen et al., 2021; Kvale & Brinkmann, 2015). The data will be analyzed using thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006) and content analysis (Hsieh & Shannon, 2005).
