Preparing for the unforeseen (PREP)

The PREP project investigates the role of emotions in teachers’, student teachers’, and school leaders’ decision-making in unforeseen situations in everyday school life.

The aim is to develop knowledge of an embodied cognitive approach informed by experience- and research-based knowledge.

Through a new method for embodied cognitive awareness, the project will develop tools to understand and manage emotional experiences in teaching, aiming to reduce emotional stress among teachers and school leaders, and help newly qualified teachers remain in the profession.

Through examining these emotional experiences, the project seeks to advance understanding of teachers', student teachers' and school leaders' practical knowledge. It also aims to strengthen educational preparedness for unforeseen situations through the development of embodied cognitive theoretical concepts, didactic methods, mentoring principles and research methodology.
