Sauna and cold water immersion to prevent and reduce stress and mental disorders

The Clinical Neuroscience project group will investigate whether sauna and cold water immersion can be useful to prevent and treat stress-related conditions such as pain and psychological distress.

A wide range of studies have shown convincing results and health effects of sauna and cold water immersion, but there is not many studies within the field of mental health. The research group will conduct a randomized controlled trial, with the aim to uncover links between exposure to high and low temperatures, stress, inflammation and psychological complaints.

Researcher Eva Hilland and the Clinical Neuroscience project group have received funding from OsloMet's technology and health initiative 'Intelligent Health' to do a study on sauna, cold water immersion and mental health.
