This master’s degree provides you with in-depth study and specialisation in the field of structural engineering and building technology. Structural engineering concerns the analysis, calculation and design of load-bearing structures and structural systems. Building technology concerns the analysis, calculation and design of the body of the building, including facade and building envelopes.

Programme Content
In the master's degree programme, you will gain in-depth knowledge and specialization in the fields of structural engineering and building technology. It will provide you with up-to-date knowledge based on the needs of the building industry and the society.
Structural Engineering
Structural Engineering is about the analysis, calculation and design of load-bearing structures and structural systems in an effort to understand and calculate the stability, strength and rigidity of built structures. Structural engineering theory is based upon applied physical laws and empirical knowledge of the structural performance of different materials and geometries. The study programme focuses on providing the students with solid, theoretical knowledge and applied skills in linear and non-linear FEM analysis, design of structures and structural systems, and service life extension of structures.
Building Technology
Building technology concerns the analysis, calculation and design of the body of the building, including facades and building envelopes. Climate changes brings increased temperature, more rainfall and extreme weather, and it exposes buildings, bridges, offshore structures and other installations to greater and more unpredictable stresses. At the same time, society and authorities are increasingly demanding environmentally friendly and sustainable design of the built environment. In the master’s degree programme, you will learn about these typical issues.
Students who complete the master's degree programme will be awarded the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Structural Engineering and Building Technology.
This master’s degree programme is designed to meet the National Council for Technological Education’s (UHR-NRT) conditions for use of the additional Norwegian designation sivilingeniør (siv.ing.) on diplomas for master’s degree programmes in technology subjects.
To design new buildings and structures for the future, engineering expertise at the master’s degree level in the fields of building technology and structural engineering, as well as in-depth knowledge about climate and environmental issues relating to the field, is needed.
The master’s degree programme is aimed at candidates who want a solid professional and academic supplement to their education in the field of building technology and structural engineering.

Exchange
You can go on an exchange during your third or fourth semester. If you go during your fourth semester, you write your master’s thesis with a supervisor from your host university.
You can go to:
- Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland
- National Technical University of Athens, Greece
- Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece

Computer System Requirements
The programme uses a lot of software that will only run on the Windows operating system, which students will have installed on their own laptops. Because of this, we recommend PCs, not Macs.
- The computer should have at least 8 GB of memory and a fast processor (if Intel, at least Core-i5 multicore or equivalent)
- We recommend a gaming laptop for their powerful graphics card in connection with 3D modelling and the possibility of connecting VR glasses. A good graphics card should be a priority.
- It is also an advantage to have an SSD disk and a matte monitor.
- If you are going to use Windows on your Mac, then a stronger performance is required and sometimes it is difficult to make it work well.
-
Career
Candidates holding this master’s degree have expertise that is in high demand in both the private and public sector.
The most relevant employers are advisory engineering firms, contractors, construction clients, municipalities and research institutes.
This degree can also qualify you for further studies at the doctoral degree level.
