Jianhua Zhang har vært professor i informatikk ved OsloMet - Storbyuniversitetet, Oslo, Norge siden 2018. Før han ble med i OsloMet, jobbet han i et fransk IT-selskap, Vekia (Lille, Frankrike) som vitenskapelig direktør. Han var professor ved East China University of Science and Technology (Shanghai, Kina) mellom 2007 og 2017. Han tok doktorgrad fra Ruhr University Bochum, Tyskland og gjorde postdoc forskning ved The University of Sheffield, Storbritannia. Han var gjesteforsker ved TU Dresden, Tyskland fra 2002 til 2003 og gjesteprofessor ved TU Berlin, Tyskland mellom 2008 og 2015. Hans forskningsinteresser inkluderer beregningsintelligens, maskinlæring, intelligent kontroll, biomedisinsk signalbehandling, nevroergonomi, og affektiv databehandling. Han fungerer som styreleder for IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control) Technical Committee on Human-Machine Systems (2017-2023), nestleder for IEEE Norge-seksjonen og nestleder for IEEE CIS Norway Chapter. Han sitter i redaksjonen for 4 internasjonale vitenskapelige tidsskrifter, inkludert Frontiers in Neuroscience, Cognitive Neurodynamics, og Cognition, Technology and Work. Han var styreleder eller hovedtaler for en rekke internasjonale vitenskapelige konferanser.
