Aksel Braanen Sterri

About

Aksel is a postdoctoral research fellow, leading a three-year research project funded by The Norwegian Research Council on the topic of "The Ethics of Contagion: How We Should Respond to the Spread of Infectious Diseases." He is based at the Department of Government, Harvard University, where he intends to build a framework for responding to the spread of contagious diseases grounded in individuals' moral responsibilities.

The project builds on his Ph.D. thesis in philosophy, where he examines our duties to people in need and particularly participants in delicate market transactions. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Oxford Handbook of Digital Ethics and journals such as Philosophical Studies, Journal of Medical Ethics, Journal of Applied Philosophy, Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics and World Development Bioethics.
Aksel has taught technology ethics, political theory, epistemology, applied philosophy, data ethics, introduction to philosophy (Ex. Phil.). He is currently teaching political theory.

After completing his MA in political science from the University of Oslo in 2012, Aksel worked as an analyst in the Norwegian Labour Party, a columnist and opinion page editor in Dagbladet, and an editor at Store norske leksikon. He has also written and edited several books: on social democracy, euthanasia (w/ Ole Martin Moen), global citizenship (ed.), and the Norwegian elite (ed. Knut Olav Åmås).
