Sylvia Irene Lysgård

About

Sylvia Lysgård has a broad background, with experience from business life and academia. Her research is in the interdisiplinary field science and technology studies (STS), and she is particularly invested in topics like development of technology as a professional practice, the role of technology-intensive enterprises in contemporary societal developments and the delegation of labor between humans and machines. Issues concerning energy and climate, especially connected to oil and renewables, both in politics and in business life are of special interest, and sustainability and innovation are core to her research. Lysgård is particularily concerned with how corporate businesses, decition makers and policy makers develop and communicate their scenarios and narratives - and how the technologies that are being developed alongside these, mirror and are affected by such stories.

Sylvia is curious about new technologies in general, and is especially interested in digitalization as both a technological and a societal phenomenon. She teaches courses connected to technology and society, research and science, and globalisation.

Sylvia has a master from Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture (KULT), Centre for Technology and Society, NTNU (2006), and a PhD from Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK), UiO (2024). She has worked in the graphic industry and in the ICT business, amongst other things as a web designer and a consultant, with project management, and with development, testing and test management of large systems.

Sylvia Lysgård holds the position as the safety delegate for Department of Computer Science. Sylvia's deputy is Einar Grønvoll.
