The project explores how AI influences creative collaborative processes in songwriting.
The project will investigate how AI shapes the creative processes that unfold when songwriters collaborate, and how the technology may contribute to reproducing or reinforcing colonial power structures within the music industry.
This will be explored through interviews and participant observation in an experimental songwriting lab, where songwriters use and experiment with various AI‑based tools for music production and songwriting. In dialogue with the researchers, participants will reflect throughout the lab on how the inherent power structures of AI technologies influence their creative processes.
