A FAIR Trade: Making words, data, and power Findable, Accessible, Interpretable, and Responsible for a FAIR Market

This project explores how artificial intelligence can help make financial communication clearer, fairer, and more accessible for everyone.

Financial markets are supposed to be transparent, yet the information companies publish is often so dense, technical, or strategically vague that even experts struggle to understand it.

This project, A FAIR Trade, asks how emerging AI technologies can help make these disclosures clearer, more accessible, and more accountable to the public.

More about the project

Although companies must legally release information, these documents are frequently written in ways that obscure risks, exaggerate successes, or bury important details under pages of jargon, leaving ordinary investors, journalists, and even regulators at a disadvantage.

Will develop AI assistant

The project develops an AI assistant that can read financial disclosures, compare them with past announcements, examine stock price movements, and trace company relationships through ownership networks.

Using techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation, knowledge graphs, and multimodal analysis, the system can place new disclosures in context, highlight unusual patterns, and detect inconsistencies between what a company says and how the market behaves.

Cooperation with journalists

Financial journalists, who play a crucial role in translating corporate information for the public, will test this assistant in real newsroom conditions, allowing researchers to study how AI can support faster, clearer, and more evidence-based reporting.

By revealing hidden connections and making complex communication understandable, the project aims to reduce information asymmetry and strengthen trust in financial markets.

Ultimately, A FAIR Trade positions AI not as a replacement for human judgment, but as a tool that helps society make sense of complicated economic signals, improving transparency in an area where clarity is essential for fairness and democratic accountability.
