The project examines collaboration across small local media outlets, with the aim of strengthening in‑depth and data‑driven journalism.
The project will examine the significance of establishing the “Collaboration Desk” for diversity, innovation, and quality in local journalism.
The “Collaboration Desk” is a network collaboration between newspapers in the Norwegian Local Newspapers Association (LLA), the Centre for Investigative Journalism (SUJO), and NRK. The desk develops research packages that local newsrooms in the network can further develop into local stories.
By analysing the interaction between the desk and the local newspapers, and the type of journalism the “Collaboration Desk” has resulted in, the research project will provide new knowledge about the value of network collaboration for small local media outlets.
The researchers involved in the project have specialised expertise in local journalism and broad research experience in areas such as media diversity, digital transformation, and innovation in local media.
The research project is a collaboration between OsloMet and Nord University.
