Learning Across Boundaries in Elderly Care (LABCare)

LABCare contributes knowledge on competence development in eldercare. We investigate how municipalities and educational institutions can create learning conditions that strengthen the role of healthcare assistants and support a sustainable workforce.

Municipal health and care services will face major challenges in recruiting, retaining, and qualifying staff in the years ahead. As the population ages and the number of people requiring care increases, while the working-age population shrinks, there is a growing need for knowledge about the conditions required to build a competent and sustainable workforce.

The LABCare project examines how upper secondary schools and workplaces jointly contribute to competence development in a sector where both recruitment patterns and work practices are changing. For example, we explore how organisations facilitate language support, welfare technology, and the use of digital solutions in everyday practice.

How is the project carried out?

The project is based on case studies from Northern and Southern Norway as well as Denmark. It includes both urban and rural contexts and explores experiences of competence development at the micro, meso, and macro levels.
