NORPART: Expanding Horizons in Journalism and Media Studies

This project aims to enhance the quality of higher education of journalists in Norway, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Journalism education on global issues such as climate change, war, conflict and peace, and illicit financial flows calls for global perspectives, multinational groups of students, and a truly multilingual and multicultural group of teachers.

The key goal of the project 'Expanding Horizons in Journalism and Media Studies' is to enhance the quality of higher education of journalists in the partner countries: Norway, Tanzania, and Uganda through mutual student mobility and cooperation.

More about the project

Through an approach combining the mobility of students and lecturers, and new innovative student active learning methods (MOOCs and COIL), the project aims to establish processes to create a learning environment that can foster the education of journalists better suited to prepare students for global challenges of our times.'

To reach the overall aim, we have planned for several activities that will have, among others, the following expected results (outputs): seven masters educated; 40 international students taking a particular 'OsloMet Semester' with three international courses (in media, war and conflict; climate journalism, and investigative journalism), which will be designed for the project; 20
Norwegian students taking courses or doing fieldwork at partner institutions.

The main activities are scholarships for a full master's degree at OsloMet, scholarships for a blended semester in Oslo, re-design of curricula and courses, joint research, the inclusion of students in research and dissemination, joint student projects, and more. To ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, diversity and inclusion play an integral part in the project.
