School Absence: Interprofessional Collaboration and Student Participation in Attendance Cases (SAFE)

SAFE examines how schools, educational psychological services and other support services collaborate in responding to concerning school absence.

Particular attention is given to how decisions are made and followed up, and how students – and, where relevant, their parents or guardians – are involved in these processes.

The researchers will follow 8–10 school absence cases over time in three municipalities in Eastern Norway. Data will be collected through observations of meetings, document analysis and interviews. The project will also contribute to the development of methodological and ethical approaches to longitudinal, case-based research in this field.

The project is a collaboration between the Department of Primary and Secondary Teacher Education (GFU) at the Faculty of Education and International Studies (LUI) and Norwegian Social Research (NOVA) at OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University.

The project is funded through OsloMet’s research initiative Inclusion of More Children and Young People.
