VocEdData

The project studies students’ motivation, mastery, and learning experiences in both school-based and workplace-based training, aiming to generate knowledge that can enhance vocational education.

This research project  explores how students in their second year of vocational education and training (VET) in Norway experience school-based learning and workplace training. The project draws on students’ own perspectives to better understand the factors that influence their motivation, mastery, and learning.

The main objective of VocEdData is to provide insights that can enhance our understanding of how VET programs support students in their educational journey. The findings aim to contribute to the further development of vocational education and training.

Target groups

The project is particularly relevant for schools, teachers, employers, and others interested in understanding and improving the quality of vocational education and training. By focusing on students’ experiences, the project seeks to provide valuable insights into how programs can meet their needs and aspirations.

Annual survey

VocEdData examines key questions related to what motivates students, how they experience workplace training, and what factors influence their choices and sense of mastery. Data is collected through an annual survey of second-year VET students, and findings will later be supplemented with register data to provide a broader understanding of students’ educational and career pathways.

The project is conducted by master’s students at the Department of Vocational Teacher Education, many of whom are vocational teachers themselves, in collaboration with project leader Marianne Dæhlen.

The database created through VocEdData may be made available to researchers and students upon request, with the aim of supporting further research on vocational education and training.

The goal is to facilitate more quantitative research in a field where large datasets are currently limited.
