I am a university lecturer and PhD candidate at the Department of Bachelor Paramedicine, Institute of Nursing and Health Promotion, Faculty of Health Sciences.
As a lecturer, I teach and supervise students, focusing on prehospital mental health care and health legislation related to capacity to consent, voluntariness, and coercion.
I am a certified Ambulance Worker with over 20 years of experience in prehospital emergency care, originally trained through the internal program at Oslo University Hospital (OUS). In addition, I am a Registered Nurse with clinical experience from pediatric and intensive care units.
My PhD project explores ambulance personnel’s knowledge and experiences in assessing patients’ decision-making capacity and their right to self-determination in prehospital settings, particularly among patients with mental health or substance use challenges. Our overarching goal is to improve the quality of care provided by ambulance services.

Ambulance workers’ assessment of self-determination and capacity to consent
The aim of this PhD project is to investigate ambulance workers' knowledge and experiences to assess the right to self-determination and capacity to consent in prehospital meetings with patients with mental health illnesses and/or drug-related issues.

We explore ambulance personnel's experiences with and understanding of what coercion is, how often, in what situations and in what forms coercion is used.
