How does the reliance on AI tools change the conditions for responsible professional conduct? What methods and approaches are best suited to identify and assess disruptive and unforeseen effects of AI applications in this domain?
The proposed project addresses these questions by bringing epistemology, professional ethics, law, and empirical social science together to develop a practical assessment framework for the study of AI in the professions. The framework will be refined based on results and experiences from case studies.
Informed by recent research demonstrating unexpected consequences of AI use in professional conduct, the framework will not only incorporate interdisciplinary perspectives on criteria for evaluation but will also take a ‘bottom-up’ approach to the identification of these criteria, bringing in the perspectives of professionals who have first-hand experience of the contexts of use.
