About
Katarzyna Van Damme-Ostapowicz is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing and Health Promotion. She holds a habilitation degree in health sciences from the Medical University in Poland, where she defended her habilitation thesis in 2014. Habilitation is a higher academic qualification, at a level above the PhD, which provides eligibility for the highest academic positions at universities in Europe. Katarzyna holds a PhD in Medicine from the Medical University in Poland, where she defended her doctoral dissertation at the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2007. Her previous education includes a Master’s degree in General Nursing (2001) from the Medical University of Lublin, Poland; a Bachelor’s degree in General Nursing from Odisse University in Belgium; specialization in Operating Room Nursing from a university in Belgium; and specialization in tropical infectious diseases from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Belgium (2008). Katarzyna is the author and co-author of book chapters and has extensive experience teaching at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD levels at the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as supervising master’s students and doctoral fellows. For several years, she led an interdisciplinary student research group at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Medical University of Poland. Based on her research, she developed standards for patient education in health promotion, as well as a postgraduate program in tropical infectious diseases for master’s students in nursing and midwifery. She organized courses in Tropical Medicine at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, University of Nigeria, for students and staff of the Medical University of Białystok, Poland. Van Damme-Ostapowicz’s research interests include quality of life, health promotion, public health, health technology, and nursing education. She has primarily worked with quantitative research methods but also has experience with qualitative approaches. She has participated in various national and international projects.
