How do students’ experiences at school and in vocational specialisation relate to their pathways after Year 2 of vocational education and training?
This transition may influence whether students continue to an apprenticeship, pursue further education or leave education before completing their qualification. This project draws on VocEdData, a survey of students enrolled in the second year of vocational programmes in several Norwegian counties. VocEdData examines students’ experiences at school and in vocational specialisation, including their motivation, perceived competence and the support they receive.
The project has two main activities:
- prepare a manuscript for an international academic journal. Through this work, we will assess data quality and test the measurement instruments and analytical approach.
- complete an application to the Research Council of Norway. The application will describe a larger study in which survey data could be linked to register data on transitions, completion, trade certificates, further education and participation in the labour market.
The larger study could provide knowledge relevant to schools and county authorities in their efforts to support students’ transitions to apprenticeships, further education or work. The application will be developed in collaboration with representatives from the vocational education sector and will include a plan for how the knowledge can be used and shared.
The project is funded through OsloMet’s research initiative Inclusion of More Children and Young People.
