Vibeke Sjøvoll

About

Vibeke Sjøvoll works as an artist/teacher/researcher at the Department of Product Design at Oslo Metropolitan University. Sjøvoll holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and she studied at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and earned a master’s degree in Fine Art from the Glasgow School of Art. Her dissertation, Creating, uncreating and recreating: experimenting together with students, things, and processes in design education, explores the relationship between art and research, as well as art, design, and education. In her research, she experiments with and examines the relationships between the material world and the social world, between education and values, and between practice and research. Other key themes in her teaching include aesthetics, play and creativity as care and engagement, materiality and cultural understanding, site-specific art practices, and critical perspectives in art and design.
