About
Biography
I am a professor in industrial design with a main interest in game dynamics and systemic design. I run courses in Systemic Design, Design for Experience, and Game Dynamics on our master Design in Complexity. In the course Design for Experience our students work with psychological mechanisms in design and nudging as well as game dynamics in order to design for behavior, engagement and emergence, which involves for service and product users to become engaged because of the design, and to develop their own experiences.
Systemic design is the combining of systems theory and the design practice. The development of systemic design has emerged as a result of designers lacking methods to meet the complexity of social and environmental contexts in which they operate.
I am active in the networks:
• Excellent Academic Environment: Cybernetics, and part of the Centre for the study of digitization of public services and citizenship, CEDIC
• Welfare Access Through Technology (WATT)
• Relating Systems Design RSD
• Systemic Design Association, Norway
• on Cybernetics
• International Toy Research Association ,ITRA
In addition to educational engagement, I have been a design consultant since 1992, engaged within the areas of design for sustainability, hospital and laboratory instruments, positioning and steering equipment for ships, service design, leisure products, and HCI, some which have received design awards and been patented. In 2005 I became a cofounder of 2025design which business areas lies within environmental management, sustainable product design and strategy development. This professional practice has since 2004 been a part time engagement. I was trained as an industrial designer at Design Academy Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
I have recently contributed to the establishing of the master program Design in Complexity, the international course Practice Oriented Systemic Design with L'École de design Nantes Atlantique, Frane, and the specialization Game Dynamics in Design.
