Dawit Shawel Abebe er professor innen folkehelse ved Fakultet for helsefag, Institutt for sykepleie og helsefremmende arbeid. Han har en doktorgrad i folkehelse med spesialisering i epidemiologi på Universitetet i Oslo (UiO 2014). Av tidligere utdannelse har han en mastergrad i folkehelse ved UiO (2009), en mastergrad i ernæring ved Universitetet i Gent, Belgia (2006), og en bachelorgrad i folkehelse ved Universitetet i Haramaya, Etiopia (2003). Dawit forskningsinteresser inkluderer innvandrerhelse, ungdom og psykisk helse, komorbiditet mellom somatiske sykdommer og psykiske lidelser, og global helse. Han har primært jobbet med kvantitative forskningsmetoder.
