About
My research draws on interdisciplinary approaches including ethnographic fieldwork with children and young people focusing on developing knowledge about how children and young people use and are affected by the technological transformations in their everyday lives. I have also conducted research on several other topics such as language issues, marginalization in education, social justice, gender, education and youth. This work has taken a central focus in looking at the way in which education and more specifically teacher education can contribute to providing competencies for democratic participation. I am currently the coordinator of a large-scale European Research project funded by Horizon 2020 (Grant Agreement no. 870548) entitled The Impact of Technological Transformations on the Digital Generation (DigiGen). From 2008-2014 I was the coordinator of the Gender Equality, Education and Poverty (GEEP), funded by NORAD. The project focused on critical questions surrounding gender equality, equity, and education within a context of poverty in post-conflict South Africa and Sudan.

-
DigiGen – The Impact of Technological Transformations on the Digital Generation
DigiGen aims to develop knowledge about how children and young people use and are affected by the technological transformations in their everyday lives.
-
Flex-IT – A mixed-method study of cross-domain information technology use in everyday life
The emergence of new technology has increasingly blurred the boundaries between work and family domains, and the consequences for the health and productivity of the labor force remains unknown. These contradictory perspectives make it important to understand to what extent, when and for who cross-domain IT use is healthy and/or unhealthy.
