Idunn Brekke har en master i Sosiologi (2001) og doktorgrad i sosiologi (2008) fra Institutt for sosiologi og samfunnsgeografi (UiO). Hennes forskningsinteresser er sykefravær, sosial ulikhet, helse, arbeidsmarkedet, funksjonshemming, minoriteter, ungdom og utdanning. Hun underviser i kvantitativ metode på masternivå.
