About
Aadne Aasland conducts research on social welfare, migration and integration, ethnicity, and diversity, with a particular focus on Russia, Ukraine, and the Baltic countries. Currently, he is leading a project on Norwegian cooperation with Russia on health and welfare in the Barents region (RE:Barents) and participating in a project on how Russia promotes its interests in Norway and Western Europe (PRORUSS). Recently, Aadne completed a major project on addressing regional diversity in Ukraine (ARDU). In recent years, he has also worked on issues related to migration and immigrant integration in Norway and is currently involved in a four-year project on emigration from Norway (EXIT Norway). He is leading a four-year (2023-27) research project on the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the Norwegian labour market (UKRINT). Aadne has authored several publications on ethnicity issues in the Baltic countries and wrote his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Russian and East European Studies, University of Glasgow, on Russian ethnic identity and ethnicity politics in Latvia. He has extensive experience in conducting and analyzing large-scale social surveys. Aadne is leader of UKRAINETT, a Norwegian network for research on Ukraine.
