About
Aadne Aasland conducts research on social welfare, migration and integration, and issues of ethnicity and diversity. He has extensive project experience in Ukraine, Russia, and the Baltic countries. In recent years, he has also worked extensively on migration and the integration of immigrants in Norway.
Aadne leads a four-year research project (2023–2027) on the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the Norwegian labour market (UKRINT), funded by the Research Council of Norway. He is also involved in several other projects on Ukrainian refugees in Norway and the Nordic countries. In addition, he leads a project funded by HK-dir that disseminates knowledge about Ukrainian municipalities during wartime to Norwegian municipalities cooperating with partners in Ukraine.
Aadne has published widely on ethnicity issues in the Baltic region. He completed his PhD at the Institute of Russian and East European Studies at the University of Glasgow, with a dissertation on Russian ethnic identity and ethnopolitics in Latvia.
He has extensive experience in designing, implementing and analysing large-scale social surveys.
Aadne is the head of UKRAINETT, the Norwegian network for research on Ukraine.
