Aadne Aasland

About

Aadne Aasland’s research interests include themes such as social welfare, migration, ethnicity and diversity, with a special focus on Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic countries. He is currently working on a project on health cooperation with Russia in the Barents region (RE: Barents) and another on how Russia promotes its interests in Norway and Western Europe (PRORUSS). Aadne recently completed a major project on the accommodation of regional diversity in Ukraine (ARDU). In recent years, he has also worked on projects concerning migration and integration of immigrants in Norway, and he is now participating in a four-year project on emigration from Norway (EXIT Norway).
Aadne has several publications on ethnicity issues in the Baltic countries and wrote his doctoral thesis at the Institute of Russian and Eastern European Studies, University of Glasgow, on Russian ethnic identity and ethnopolitics in Latvia. He has extensive experience in conducting and analysing social surveys in Norway and internationally. Aadne is part of the core group for OsloMet's Center for Diversity Studies (DISCO).
