Jeg har en tverrfaglig bakgrunn med utdanning og erfaring både innen ernæring, epidemiologi og pedagogikk.

Mine forskningsinteresser favner bredt: fra ulike epidemiologiske studier som undersøker helseutfall av sjømat, mineraler og sporstoffer, eldre og ernæring, sykelig overvekt, kosttilskudd og helsekompetanse samt forskning på utdanning.

Jeg underviser blant annet i forskningssmetode og epidemiologi, noe jeg har gjort siden 2005. Kritisk tenkning er et tema som opptar meg spesielt, og jeg er prosjektleder for "Bak Overskriftene" som er et tverrfaglig prosjekt som har som formål å lære studenter å kritisk vurdere helsepåstander i media. Dette er nå implementert som et læringsdesign i det nye tverrfaglige emnet "Kunnskapsbasert praksis i helsetjenesten", som ca. 1500 studenter skal ta årlig. Å lære kritisk vurdering av helsepåstander i media kan være et springbrett til å lære kritisk tenkning og oppøve den kritiske helsekompetansen, noe som er særlig viktig for å kunne manøvrere seg i det digitale landskapet av helseinformasjon slik at man kan foreta informerte behandlingsvalg om egen helse.
