Aadne Aasland forsker på sosial velferd, migrasjon og integrering, etnisitet og mangfold, og har hatt utstrakt prosjektarbeid i Ukraina, Russland og de baltiske land. De siste årene har han også arbeidet med spørsmål omkring migrasjon og integrering av innvandrere i Norge.

Aadne leder et fireårig (2023-27) forskningsprosjekt om integrering av ukrainske flyktninger i det norske arbeidsmarkedet (UKRINT) med finansiering fra Forskningsrådet og arbeider også på andre prosjekter om ukrainske flyktninger i Norge og Norden. Han leder også et prosjekt, finansiert av HK-dir, som skal formidle kunnskap om ukrainske kommuner under krig til norske kommuner som har samarbeid med Ukraina.

Aadne har flere publikasjoner omkring etnisitetsspørsmål i Baltikum og skrev sin doktoravhandling ved Institute of Russian and East European Studies, Universitetet i Glasgow, om russisk etnisk identitet og etnisitetspolitikk i Latvia.

Han har utstrakt erfaring med design, gjennomføring og analyse av større surveyundersøkelser.

Aadne er leder for UKRAINETT, Norsk nettverk for ukrainaforskning.
